To encourage you to support your peers and be an active member of the Grinnell community, I will award extra credit tokens for attending certain events. You can earn tokens for up to six activities (three academic and three peer support). Elligible extra credit opportunities will be announced at the start of class each day.
After attending an event which is approved for extra credit, you are required to fill out the following form within 24 hours of your attendance. Hint: Keep track of the events for which you've submitted so you can easily remember how many extra credit opportunities you've taken advantage of. One way to do this is to click the box at the end of the form to send a copy of your responses to yourself.
The form asks the following questions:
So now you're asking: What is this "extra credit" good for? For each each token you earn, you may 're-submit' one of the following: A homework assignment; OR one problem from a midterm exam. Note that you may not resubmit anything from labs, quizzes, or the final exam.
HomeworkYou are allowed to obtain help for resubmitted homework. However, just like during a regular homework submission, it is my expectation that there is no copying of work taking place, and everyone you consult with is listed in your academic honesty statement.
Submit your resubmissions for homework in gradescope with all of the following information. Note that if any piece is missing, your attempt will not be graded.
After each of the two midterms, I will announce which of the problems are elligible for revision, and you may choose to revise up to one of them. You are not allowed to obtain help from any person or resource other than the instructor, textbook, and course webpage(s). Include an academic honesty statement in your revision similar to ones that we use on homework and labs, listing any person you talked to about the problem and any resources you used.
Revisions should be submitted in gradescope with all of the following formation. Note that if any piece is missing, your attempt will not be graded.
I attended something that wasn't listed during class, and I think it should count. The very best thing to do is to always bring up your suggested events during class before it occurs to get approval. You can ask me about it after the event, but know that since there are so many eliigible opportunitites I present during class, I am less inclined to approve things after the fact.
Can I participate in an extra credit opporunity before I need any resubmissions? Yes, participate in up to six activities at any time, and cash in on your tokens as you need them.
If I complete an activity and fill out the form, do I need to complete a resubmission within a particular time frame? No, participate in up to six activities at any time, and cash in on your tokens as you need them.
When are resubmissions due? If you would like to use a token, the only hard deadline is 5pm on the last day of finals. However, you are only allowed to submit at most 2 resubmissions in any given week (Sunday - Saturday), so you will need to plan to complete some things before the last week of the semester. Additionally, some later homework assignments may not be graded fast enough for there to be time for a resubmission.
What if I resubmit a homework, and I still don't get full credit. May I resubmit it again? You may, by using another token.
May I resubmit for homework that I didn't turn in? You may not. This system is meant to encourage you to take a second look at concepts that you may have struggled with initially, not as a way to turn in things late. Homework problems in particular must show a good faith effort initally in order to be resubmitted.
Is there a limit to the number of problems on a particular assessment I use my tokens on? Yes, you may only use up to one token on each midterm.
In gradescope, does it matter which revision number to which I submit my revision? No, just use the next available number (ie go in order).
